In 2016, way before TikTok and the bounty of hair trends that now blossom from it, Alexa Chung was rocking the biggest cut of summer 2021. Always ahead of the curve, Chung posted a throwback mirror selfie, wearing none other than the wolf cut, to Instagram.
The haircut du jour is a hybrid of both the mullet and shag haircuts, both of which have had a renaissance in recent months. Chung’s 2016 version was as choppy and textured as we’ve come to expect from the cut (searches for which are up 250% on Google) but with her trademark short length.
An excellent style to try if you’re after a cool look, hairstylist Kristin Ess previously told Vogue that it, “allows people’s natural wave and texture to come through in a way it doesn’t usually if the cut is longer and heavier.”.
Nowadays, Chung’s hair is just as face-framing and lived-in, sitting an inch above her shoulders in a perfectly imperfect French bob. But will she make her return to the wolf cut? Watch this space.
